Breaking News: Plane with 81 aboard crashes in Colombia

Colombia

An aircraft with 81 people aboard, including a Brazilian football team, crashed in central Colombia, the country’s civil aviation association said on its website on Tuesday.

Rescuers are moving survivors from the crash site, the aviation body added. The Chapocoense football team was among the 72 passengers and 9 crew on board the aircraft.

The mayor of the nearby city of Medellin said that at least three passengers were rescued alive from the crash site, adding that access to the mountainous area is complicated.

The chartered aircraft was carrying Brazilian first division soccer team Chapecoense. It crashed at around 10 p.m. ET while on its way to Medellin’s international airport.
