BREAKING- NLC Shuts down Arik Air
Some Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Thursday, prevented staff of Arik Air Limited from gaining access into the premises of the airline company.
It came as a suprise to many Arik staff when they sought to resume their normal work activities this morning but were greeted by NLC branded Vehicles (and flags) and police vans blocking all the gates leading into the premises.
Speaking with our correspondent, a staff of Arik who spoke under condition of anonymity declared that the reason for the shut down by NLC was because Arik Staff have not been allowed to become members of the Union (NLC).
He said “For the past years, members of staff have clamored to be allowed to sign membership with the Union but the management has blatantly refused.
When the receiver managers took over, they were also approached with this issue but they refused too even thought they also belong to the NBA which is a Union. This is why I think the NLC took this decision. There are also many other issues which I don’t want to disclose here”.
Efforts to talk to members of the NLC and senior management personel of Arik proved abortive.
Recall that Arik Air have been in receivership since last month (February) and the management is presently being run by AMCON.
