Buhari forced to buy weapons from Russia, Pakistan
The Nigerian government has been forced to buy warplanes and helicopters from Russia and Pakistan due to the refusal of the US to sell weapons to the country.
The US has refused to lift a ban placed on the sale of weapons to Nigeria due to allegations of human rights abuse levelled against the country’s security agencies.
The disclosure was made to BBC by Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army was recently accused of killing 150 pro-Biafra protesters in the country’s Eastern region.
The allegations, which have been denied by the army, were made by human rights group, Amnesty International.
The organization has also accused the army of brutalizing innocents in its war against Boko Haram.
