Isheri North Kidnap: Secretary regains freedom
Secretary of Isheri North Estate Government Reserved Area, Lagos, Mr. Dayo Adekoya, who was abducted last Thursday in his apartment by gunmen, has regained freedom.
He was released at about 3a.m., yesterday. Family sources stated that an undisclosed amount was paid as ransom. Vanguard was informed that he was dropped at a canal close to his residence from where his family members picked him.
News of his freedom was received with joy as residents thronged his house to celebrate with his family.
It was gathered that on arriva, he rested for a while before going to an undisclosed hospital for medical check-up.
But when journalists got to his abode, some family members claimed he was yet to be released, apparently to avoid crowd gathering.
However, a resident of the area, who gave his name as Ahmedu, said: “We were told he was released early this morning (yesterday).
“Some people that are close to them visited and confirmed his release. But when we went there, we were told that he was not around.”
Recall that gunmen, numbering 20, stormed the estate last Thursday, killed three guards at the estate and kidnapped Adekoya.
From their den, the abductors demanded for N100 million ransom for Adekoya’s release, but later reduced it to N50 million.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed Adekoya’s release, said the Inspector General of Police had ordered that the perpetrators of the crime be fished out.
In adherence to the directive, Badmus informed that efforts were on by the Lagos command and operatives of the IGP Intelligence Response Team, IRT, to arrest the perpetrators.
