Niger State Governor drums support for President Buhari
The Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello called on Nigerians at home and abroad to rally around President Muhammadu Buhari on the reforms and steps taken by the administration to build a new Nigeria.
This call was made while speaking on the theme ‘X-raying our Current Economic Challenges as a Nation and Foreign Policy, Prospects and Solutions’ at the Nigerian Young Professionals Summit in New York, USA.
Governor Bello said President Buhari was committed to building a new Nigeria but insisted that he cannot do it alone.
“My knowledge of the President is that he is a committed leader who has passion for the development of Nigeria. I know that his love and passion for Nigeria is unequal. But it is also clear that he cannot do it alone, he needs us to stand by him,’’ he stated.
Noting that many countries including the US go through recession, the Governor explained that with “the current effort by President Buhari’s administration, Nigeria would come out stronger and better.’’ `
Governor Bello expressed optimism on the future of Nigeria and advised that it was time for youths to stake their claim in the country’s future through support for government policies and programme.
Regaining past glory
“Let me reiterate that the best opportunity we have as a nation to regain our past glory and to put the nation back on the path of honour is to support the President Buhari’s government. Let the change we yearn for be seen in our lives…Let the change begin with us..
“As people interested in the future of this country, we must rally round and support the efforts of the Nigerian government in crushing corruption in all facets and entrench good governance, building strong institutions for sustainable development and progress of our nation,’’ he stressed.
Governor Sani Bello said his belief in the innovative ability of the youths spurred him to include youth empowerment as one of the cardinal priorities of his government.
“Niger State is creating opportunities for the youths in various sectors such as agriculture, entrepreneurship skills, sports, among others,’’ he added.
Other speakers at the summit agreed on the need for all Nigerians to come together to fix the country. One of the issues raised was the need for Nigerians at home and abroad to look beyond government at federal, state and local levels; and rather leverage on technology in building a new Nigeria.
Speakers at the event include; Founder and the CEO Centre for Value in Leadership (CVL), Professor Pat Utomi, former deputy governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Kingsley Muoghalu, young professionals, among others.
