Nigeria thrash Kenya, advance to 2016 AWCON semi-final
Nigeria have secured their passage to the semi-final of the ongoing 2016 African Women Cup of Nation in Cameroon after the Super Falcons defeated Kenya 4-0 in their last group game on Saturday, November 26, 2016.
Superb midfielder Ngozi Okobi, Faith Ikidi, Arsenal striker Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie were the goalscorers for Nigeria as the Super Falcons now set their eyes on retaining their AWCON title.
After being forced to a 1-1 draw by Ghana in their second group game, the falcons knew that nothing short of victory will be needed in their next tie, and they did not disappoint thrashing Kenya in Limbe.
Ngozi Okobi opened scoring for Nigeria in the 3rd minute, and Nigeria were two goals up just three minutes later when Faith Ikidi nodded home a powerful cross from Ugo Njoku, as both sides went to the break with the Falcons leading 2 – 0.
On resumption, Arsenal striker Asisat Oshoala netted the third goal for Nigeria in the 52nd minute before Desire Oparanozie’s goal in the 88th minute condemned Kenya to a 4 – 0 defeat.
Nigeria will now face the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in the semi-final encounter on Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
