..charges him on Yoruba Agenda
Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has sent a congratulatory message to the Governor-elect of Ondo state, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, on his victory at the governorship election concluded yesterday. He also felicitated with President Mohammadu Buhari and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress for their respective contributions to the eventual victory of the party’s candidate.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Communication & Strategy, Mr Yomi Layinka, the governor expressed great joy and deep satisfaction at the relatively peaceful conduct and eventual results of the keenly contested election. He was especially full of praise for the mature and brotherly behaviours of both contestants and the electorate noting that only in such peaceful and comradely environment can Nigerians hope to build a truly democratic culture.
While praying for God’s grace and wisdom for the governor-elect, whom Ajimobi described as a long-term friend and brother, he admonished Akeredolu to realise that winning an election is only the first step in the many more arduous stages of delivering good governance, especially as such delicate times as these.
“Dramatic as the story of your ascendancy and subsequent election was, it pales in significance to the onerous tasks ahead. Not only do you now owe the people of Ondo State the duty of confronting and ameliorating their past and current pains, you are now being saddled with the responsibility of charting their path to a new lease of life and leading them into a secure and prosperous future.”
Expanding the horizons of Akeredolu’s mandate, the governor said, “But you have not come to serve the people of Ondo state alone; at this very critical season in the socioeconomic climate of Nigeria, your kith and kin across the Yoruba diaspora look forward and beckon on you to join your governor-brothers in the region in the urgent and imperative task of redesigning and implementing a bold and sustainable Development Agenda for Western Nigeria.” He recalled a recent Southwest Governors’ Economic Forum at which all six Yoruba Governor’s agreed that “the optimum interest of the Yoruba people should be the prime focus of the six state governments at all times, and that all politics within the region must henceforth be guided by the philosophy of politics of development.”
At the end of the forum, he said further, “all participants agreed that regional integration as a sustainable economic development paradigm presents the Southwest Region, and indeed the whole of Nigeria, a pathway out of our economic recession into economic prosperity for all.”
The statement concluded by congratulating the people of Ondo State for making such a great and profitable choice by electing Akeredolu whom the governor described as a decent, egalitarian and competent gentleman with a long history of commitment to the interests and welfare of the
