Ondo Election: APC chieftain killed, vehicles destroyed, houses burnt
A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owo local government, popularly called Arogun was shot dead yesterday night.
Vehicles belonging to a former governorship aspirant of APC, Chief Jamiu Ekungba were also damaged.
A house belonging to the APC youths leader, Fisayo Oladipupo in Owo and two other houses at Ehinogbe quarters in the community were also set ablaze.
A leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Owo, has been accused of being the brain behind the ugly incident.
Sources within the town informed DAILY POST that the chieftain, who is the Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Special Duties organised a rally at Owo yesterday around 5pm for PDP governorship candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN.
At the rally, the PDP chieftain political thugs was said to be shooting sporadically to scare residents from coming out for Saturday’s governorship poll.
A resident of the community, who does not want his name online said after the rally, the chieftain was alleged to have instructed his political thugs to attack houses and property belonging the APC chieftain.
“They stormed Arogun’s house, shot him and also destroyed his property.
“They did not stop there, they went to the house of Chief Ekungba and destroyed all the vehicles parked in the compound.
“We are now scared in Owo. He does not want people to come out and vote on the election day.
“We are calling on security agencies to come to our rescue,” the source said.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph said he has not been officially briefed.
He promised to call back as soon as he gets details on the incident.
But, when contacted, a chieftain of the PDP, Adekanmbi, did not pick up our reporter’s call.
