Oyo State CP vows to apprehend UI ex-VC attackers

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State command, Mr. Samuel Adegbuyi, has vowed that the suspected attackers of a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Olufemi Bamiro, will not escape from the dragnet of the police.
He gave the assurance in his remark during the inauguration of a Communication House, Repeater Stations and walkie talkies donated to the command by the Oyo State Security Trust Fund, in Ibadan, on Thursday.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Mr. Segun Bolarinwa, presented the items on behalf of the Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
Assuring residents of Ibadan of their continued safety, the police boss said that the hoodlums that attacked the ex-VC could only run but would not be able to hide from the long arm of the law.
Adegbuyi commended the governor for what he called his morale-boosting gestures to the police and other security agencies in the state in the last five years.
He restated the preparedness of the officers and men of the command to join hands with the governor in his sustained efforts targeted at securing lives and property across the state.
Adegbuyi said, “We thank the numero uno (number one) governor in the area of peace and security. These equipment and the edifice would go a long way in combating crime and criminalities in Oyo State.
“The items we are commissioning today can be said to be just little among other assistance that have been rendered by Oyo State government through the security trust fund to improve security of our people.
“I want to assure law-abiding residents of their continued safety. My officers and men are battle ready. We will not allow hoodlums any breathing space in any part of this state.
“And let me use this opportunity to inform the people that those behind the recent attack on the former VC (Bamiro) will soon be arrested and brought to justice. We are on their trail. They will not escape from our dragnet.”
Earlier Bolarinwa had in his address assured residents of the state of the continued commitment of the Ajimobi-led administration to the sustenance of peace and security, as well as an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
The governor’s aide said that the latest gesture of the state government was in the furtherance of the administration’s cardinal objective of restoration of law and order.
He said, “This gesture is in realization of the present administration’s efforts on peace and security. This is another token of what we have been experiencing towards efficient security and maintenance of law and order.
“We all know that for effective policing, communication is key and essential and it is in this wise that the request of the state police command was given ascent by the governor through the Oyo State Security Trust Fund.
“The structure here, which used to be a dilapidated porter’s cabin, has now been rehabilitated to consist an office, conveniences and communication room and we are confident that the command will make judicious use of the equipment.”
